| Rawlings-The Idi Amin of Ghana.
On Monday February 11, Mr. Bernard Manu, wrote a piece posted on Ghana web with the caption Much ado about Rawlings". He raised several interesting points which, I believe, require far more thoughtful analysis than the feeble attempt by the author. First and foremost, those of us who are seeking justice for the many victims of Rawlings are not on a warpath to "pull him down-PhD", as Mr. Manu puts it. No one is pulling Mr. Rawlings down. We are demanding a measure of justice for the thousand of victims who met their ultimate fate in the wake of Rawlings' misguided junta. Rawlings and his men massacred thousands of Ghanaians with impunity. Remember that some of those generals, who were massacred by Rawlings' AFRC thugs, had constitutional protection from any prosecution. Their constitutional protection meant very little to their murderous intentions.
Univision Battle With Televisa Places Programs in Jeopardy
A long-running feud between Univision Communications and the Mexican broadcaster that provides most of its programming is headed for a showdown in a federal court in Los Angeles. If Univision loses, it could see many of its prime-time shows yanked. While a dispute over royalty payments is the source of the current dispute, tensions between the two companies date back to bad blood between Univisions former chief, A. Jerrold Perenchio, and the late Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, who felt he got a bad deal in 1992 when the two men negotiated the original contract. If the Mexican company, Grupo Televisa, wins and pulls its programming, Univisions enterprise value could be chopped by more than $1 billion. The lawsuit centers on a program license agreement, or PLA, between Televisa, the dominant broadcaster in Mexico, and L.A.s Univision, the dominant Spanish-language TV network in the U.S.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has opened a 13th century church in Wales which was dismantled and rebuilt stone-by-stone over 20 years 50 miles away at the National History Museum, St Fagansa, in Cardiff. St Teilo's Church from Pontarddulais near Swansea has been restored to recreate its appearance in 1520. Copies of a rare series of 16th century paintings, which were uncovered as it was being dismantled, adorn the walls. Dr Williams is from Wales, and he served as Bishop of Monmouth and as Archbishop of the Church in Wales, a disestablished art of the worldwide Anglican Communion, before becoming Archbishop of Canterbury. He was accompanied at the ceremony by First Minister for Wales Mr Rhodri Morgan and other officials Morgan believes that his great-grandparents married at the church, which was used regularly until 1850 and then occasionally during the summer until 1985, reports the BBC.

Score it as a dubious block
We all work hard and then, with one trade, the balance goes boom."), but he, like everyone else, is waiting to see what happens with the glacial O'Neal and the high-octane Suns. "They're not going to change the system and all of a sudden be rock 'em, sock 'em basketball," Popovich said. "They're going to figure out a way to slide Shaq in there just like they slid Kurt Thomas in there. It makes it tough for us in the sense that they have someone who can guard Timmy better." Eastern play still pretty beastly Remember all the preseason talk about how the Eastern Conference had narrowed the talent gap with the West? Oh well. At the All-Star break, the 23-30 New Jersey Nets would be the seventh seed in the East while the 32-20 Denver Nuggets would not make the playoffs in the West.

-The worst month for sports is what were going through right now. The NBA is hitting the mid-season and there is yet to be any real excitement. You have the NFL that just got over a month ago, and yes, we're all sad because that marks the end of football for another 6-7 months. College Football recruiting is always fun, but we all know that in a sense it is just a waiting game that is boring. We have College Basketball hitting conference schedules real hard which is truely fun to watch, but we then enter the conference tournaments and they mean nothing. MLB isen't even heard of in this month, and NASCAR has qualifying on the week before Daytona. Isen't that just interesting. The month of February is a complete let-down. This month is almost worthless in the world of sports. I mean, the NBA season may be shaping up, but there is another 40 games to be played.

The Oscars aren't so different from baseball awards
Juno." Perhaps my favorite movie of the year, "Juno" cost $2.5 million to make yet has already taken in $125 million and received four Academy Award nominations (best picture, best actress, best original screenplay and best directing). That's the equivalent of David Wright hitting .311 with 26 home runs and 116 RBIs while earning $374,000 in 2006. Compare "Juno" to "The Golden Compass," which cost an estimated $200 million to $250 million and has taken in about $60 million domestically (it's produced big box office numbers overseas, however). That's the equivalent of Richie Sexson making $15.5 million last year to hit .205 and drive in 63 runs. Also, Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman is the son of director Ivan Reitman ("Ghostbusters" and "Stripes"). Do we have the directing equivalent of the Fielders? "Atonement." Some critics found it a little too precious, but I was enthralled by director Joe Wright's spectacular 5 ½-minute tracking shot of the Battle of Dunkirk.

I try to keep up with the blog, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know what I'm talking about when it comes to Gozzer Ranch yacht wars or Marty Fortier. I'm doing this in addition to other work, so I'm not able to spend much time crusing around looking for things to post. And so - your help this week is crucial to keeping the blog flowing. Don't be shy about suggesting items to post, and please don't worry about insulting my intelligence or whatever by explaining at length why a particular post is noteworthy.
