The way it used to be, kids...

I would not have liked to live back then," laughs 10-year-old Jack Heap, a Year 6 pupil. "Going on the walk was great, especially looking at the old wells."Fellow classmate, Kiera Janicwiez, 11, agrees."It must have been quite hard living back then but I have enjoyed finding out all about it. "It was especially interesting to learn about a pub that was called The Anchor which used to be a field that belongs to my grandad."The book contains descriptions of what it was like to be a child in the village in an age when there were few cars and they could safely play in the streets, sledging in winter all the way from the chapel to the stream. There are descriptions too of how the village sounded with church bells ringing out and cartwheels and clogs clattering over the cobbles, as well as the "knock-upper" who woke mill workers by rattling a long pole against their windows.Other topics include health, families, the home, washing, communications, clothes, play and entertainment, community, transport and travel and religion.Head teacher of St Mary's, Simon Scott, said the book had been enjoyed by all children at the school."It was Year 5 and Year 6 who went on the walk and have been involved in the main but we have put other copies in our library and all the children, of all ages have been interested.

Farah seeks loophole

WESTS Tigers' hooker Robbie Farah is considering flying halfway around the world for a game of football that could ruin his dream of playing State of Origin for NSW.

The Tigers yesterday gave Farah permission to play for Lebanon this Wednesday in a World Cup qualifying match against Samoa in England.

Should he play, he will be barred from turning out for Australia and NSW for two years. Farah was yesterday told of the controversial eligibility ruling moments after booking his flight to the UK.

Farah last night said that he would travel to the UK in the hope that an exception can be made.

"I found out yesterday that the Tigers would let me play,'' Farah said. "I messaged a few of the boys and told them I would be on the plane.

"I was pretty happy, but then I was told about this rule.

RIAA Crackdown Prompts Forum on File Sharing

Students downloading illegal files in Isla Vista are not subject to the crackdown, as they do not make use of the campus network.

According to Schmidt, DC++ and BitTorrent, two other popular file sharing programs, are not under scrutiny at this time. DC++ operates entirely behind the shield of the campus network, and as such is not visible to RIAA's representatives. BitTorrent operates through the principle of distributed downloading wherein users acquire tiny pieces of each file from many different sources rather than just one.

According to a RIAA press release, a survey conducted by the Intellectual Property Institute at the University of Richmond's School of Law found that over 50 percent of college students admit to illegally downloading music and movies.

Official university policy prohibits illegal activity on university networks or computers.

FAYETTEVILLE : CNN’s Cooper to speak on UA campus March 7

Cooper, anchor of CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, is scheduled for 8 p.m. March 7 in Barnhill Arena, UA officials announced Wednesday.

Justine Middleton, a secondyear law student who co-chairs the campus committee overseeing the lecture series, said the group plans two more lectures this spring.

Speed skater and two-time Olympic gold medalist Apolo Anton Ohno is scheduled to speak April 1, and author Malcolm Gladwell is planned for April 29, Middleton said.

Cooper fits the series' goal of finding speakers from a variety of backgrounds who offer name recognition and appeal to young adults, she said.

"We always like to find someone who is relevant to people of college age," she said.

The CNN anchor once worked as a correspondent for Channel One News, a network geared to teenagers that began broadcasting in 1990.

Latest Rumors

But, if he doesn't learn to handle that Lambo, he's gonna be trapped behind that wheel! I don't know when this happened, but they are listing Jeezy's white Lamborghini as a fancy car that was demolished.

Here is how they described the situation:

Car:
2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Description:
Rapper Young Jeezy was making a left turn out of a popular Atlanta restaurant at the same time as a taxi was passing traffic in the wrong lane.

Location:
Atlanta, GA

Click here to see the mess. The sad thing is I would take that car wrecked in place of my car fixed.

SonicWALL Expands Horizons With New E-Class Initiative Signaling ...

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL) , a leading secure network infrastructure company, today launched a new initiative intended to accelerate SonicWALL's ongoing move into the enterprise market. The broad-based global initiative is based around SonicWALL's E-Class solution set, a premium-performance line of secure networking, email security and remote network access offerings engineered to drive down the cost and complexity of deploying a secure infrastructure. Igniting this initiative, SonicWALL today launches a new family of multi-core processor firewalls that combine enterprise-class protection and performance in a single appliance: the NSA E7500, the NSA E6500 and the NSA E5500.

As the cybercrime economy continues to flourish and threats become harder to detect, security is now a mainstream focus for all network administrators.

World's finest tech sites immortalised

They may have transformed man's understanding of the universe but the monumental impact of the world's first large radio telescope and the planet's largest particle physics lab has never been fully recognised.

Now both Jodrell Bank and Cern are among the technological landmarks that could be immortalised alongside the pyramids of Egypt and Taj Mahal on Unesco's World Heritage Site (WHS) list.

The UK National Commission for Unesco and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport are hosting a three-day workshop to set the framework for creating future World Heritage Sites that mark advances in science and technology.

Experts on the history of science and world heritage from 15 countries are taking part in the London-based sessions to create the framework, which is expected to stimulate a surge in the number of science and technology heritage sites across the world.
