Sun backs Web 2.0 startups
Sun Microsystems has put its weight behind up and coming web 2.0 companies with the launched this week of a new initiative designed to provide UK startups with discounts on Sun technology and services. The Sun Startup Essentials programme, which was originally launched in the States, will help eligible companies purchase a range of discounted products and services, including Sun Fire x64 servers and Sun Fire servers with CoolThreads technology, according to the firm. Startups under the scheme can also rent discounted web hosting infrastructure from Sun partners Layered Technologies, NaviSite and NTT Europe Online, and gain access to free open source software including Sun's own. It happens that the Coen Brothers got their start in the movie business with help and support from Jim and Ted Pedas, Washington real estate investors who owned the beloved Circle Theater on Pennsylvania Avenue in the '50s, '60s and '70s. Actually, that might have been a pleasant change and a blessed relief from the bloated show and the effusive windbags making speeches that Americans endure annually, even as the number of other awards shows on television has grown exponentially.

President Roh was elected in 2002 by astonishing landslide. A relative new comer and novice administrator, Roh was supported mainly by enthusiastic young voters who were dying for "change" of all the old systems and old politics. Roh promised hope for change. They young supporters used all kinds of digital methods to urge each other to vote and spreading the message to all others to go out to vote. He won. The "conservatives" were shocked. He employed lots of so nicknamed "boy scouts" for his inner circle, all wide-eyed idealists who vowed to turn Korea upside down, inside out by trying to make changes. The result was miserable. Roh was even abandoned by his own ruling party which itself split into two different parties.

ULM's 2008 junior college recruiting class finished ranked at No. 36 in the nation. According to JCGridiron.com, the top 10 junior college classes are (in order): No. 1 Florida State, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Oregon State, No. 5 Arizona, No. 6 Texas Tech, No. 7 Kansas, No. 8 Minnesota, No. 9 Oregon, and No. 10 West Virginia. ULM's 2008 signing class boasts seven junior college signees: two offensive linemen, three defensive linemen, and two defensive backs. In 1967, after 60 years of samba, a decade of bossa nova, and 36 months of military dictatorship, Brazilian pop culture erupted with its first burst of psychedelic rock 'n' roll. A key event came when young singer Caetano Veloso performed an electric set at one of the country's most prestigious songwriting competitions. As heard on his new rarities collection, Singles, Veloso got booed off the stage just as Bob Dylan had been at the '65 Newport Folk Festival. The angry crowd had come to hear thoughtful poetry and subtle bossa nova rhythms, not that rock 'n' roll crap from North America. Backing Veloso onstage was a band of teenage freaks known as Os Mutantes, who soon became the house band for the new style known as "tropicalia." .

With guidance from the Philadelphia-based Green, an avid classic-rock fan, the kids became fans of Yes' style of progressive rock and invited Anderson to perform on the soundtrack for the film. The next step was a tour, for which he happily obliged. The band is playing a set that includes about 10 Yes songs, including the challenging, nearly 20-minute-long suite "Close to the Edge" from 1972. .
Youth helpline provides counselling to Canadian Muslims
Mississauga, Ont. - A new helpline may be able to ease some of the difficulties Muslim youth are faced with in Canada. 1-800-naseeha is a toll-free number that these youth can dial to reach people who will provide confidential counselling. The helpline is based in Mississisauga and is one of its kind in the country. Even though the service is aimed to Canadian youth, the counsellors have received some calls from the U.S. Naseeha co-founder, Yassen Poonah, told Omni Telvision that people answering the phones are all Muslims born in Canada who had to overcome their own obstacles. Counsellors are available weeknights from 6-9 p.m. and speak various South Asian languages. The service hopes to expand and become a 24-hour operation.
