Letting go of war
Capt. Charles (Chip) Rankin came home from war on a Friday in July. He dropped his backpack inside the back door of his beige rambler, looked at his wife and young son, and thought how happy he was to be there. But within a couple of days, he was thinking, Now what? In Iraq, his Bravo Company -- Company B, 2-136 Infantry, based out of northwestern Minnesota -- had seen more action and more death than any other unit from the state. They'd lost three men; two had died together in the same attack that robbed another man of his legs. And they'd been deployed longer than anyone else, much of the time in dangerous Anbar Province. But it had been rewarding, too. In Iraq, Rankin, 33, had known what to expect and what was expected of him. Duties, responsibilities and chain of command were set in stone.
Ron Paul Newsletters Become Campaign Fodder
You know, often times (especially of late), I ponder if the Germans in 1933 were as apathetic to the foreboding storm that a minority voice surely tried to articulate. When the purge of this nation arrives (and it's coming), I'll remember those who willfully steered the masses into complacency. Sent by Thomas Braun | 11:32 AM ET | 01-11-2008 .

Researchers map China’s underground cybercrime economy
Researchers from Peking University in Beijing and the University of Mannheim in Germany released a paper this week that aims to map the underground cybercrime economy in China. The paper concludes that 1.49 percent of the 145,000 most popular sites in China "contain some kind of malicious content." While the Internet boom in China is impressive, the researchers note that "there is also the other side of the coin: targeting the virtual assets owned by the normal Chinese Internet users, malicious attackers, so called blackhats, discover the Web as a new venue for making money by exploiting innocent users." The researchers outline the most common attack: A common theme is to inject malicious code into a bought or cracked website. The injected code exploits an unpatched client-side vulnerability within the visiting web-browser or related application.
