What Microsoft Mesh Means To You
Just when I thought Microsoft was trying to out-Google Google , now we have another Microsoft pre-announcement mega-strategy, the "device mesh" strategy, but no real Microsoft products that yet deliver on five year unfolding strategy. I was feeling pretty proud of myself for piecing together Microsoft's online software plus services strategy, and thinking Microsoft changed it's spots by not going public with it. But not so fast, Quckdraw McGraw. Microsoft blurts the whole thing out at the Mix 08 conference. Plop, an amorphous new Microsoft strategy to confuse everybody while Microsoft gets its act together. But Microsoft had to go public with this, and now was the timing to do it. Ray Ozzie had to come out from behind the curtain, showing us he is the chief software architect to lead Microsoft and the industry into the future.

In related development, Clean Power Now has also been granted legal standing in the ongoing approval process of the Cape Wind project. The organization is now referred to as "intervener status" by the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board. "This is further recognition of Clean Power now as a credible representative of the residents of Cape Cod," said Barbara Hill, executive director of Clean Power Now. "We are delighted." Intervener status applies to those who are "substantially and specifically affected" and who the Siting Board believes are "likely to help elucidate the issues in the proceeding." Those granted legal standing are encouraged to submit "preliminary motions that they believe would assist in the narrowing of issues for, or otherwise focusing and improving the efficiency of, the adjudicatory hearing in this proceeding." Clean Power Now is a non-profit grassroots organization committed to viable renewable energy projects and policies such as the Cape Wind project.
Gender takes center stage in Democratic primaries
I am very upset at the media for blocking out any information on Alan Keyes. If ANYONE represents the Republican platform, conservatism, and values, it's ALAN. That's probably why he's never mentioned…the media represents Democrats, for the most part, and they don't want anyone to know about a highly-principled man who could lead our country back to being what it should be and not toward more and more socialism. But then I've been upset with the media for years, so it's nothing new. ALAN KEYES for PRESIDENT! .

STA RICA CLOSES WORLD-RENOWNED PARK TO STUDY ANIMAL DIE-OFF by Jesse Froehling American Reporter Correspondent Drake Bay, Costa Rica Back to home page Printable version of this story DRAKE BAY, Costa Rica, Dec. 14, 2005 -- Officials closed Costa Rica's Corcovado National Park, a prime tourist attraction, because many kinds of animals are dying in alarming numbers there amid one of the most sensitive ecosystems in the world. The dead include monkeys, toucans and sloths. The last time monkeys started dying on such a massive scale in the park was in the 1950s, said Edwardo Carrillo, the head researcher in the investigative team that is looking into the deaths. The culprit then was yellow fever, he said. However, yellow fever does not affect birds. Carillo said that perhaps as many as half the monkey population at the park (www.costaricamap.com/ing/biopcorcovado.html) has died.
Whitney Senior Center program in jeopardy
He drives his students to and from class almost every day. "They want to still learn, but there wouldn't be any teachers," he said. The Whitney Center encourages Somali elders to participate in the classes so they pass information to younger community members. The Somali Elders Council, which officially became an organization this month, credits its origins to the Opening Doors Building Bridges program. "We started there," said Ismail Ali, chairman of the group. "We gathered there to discuss." The group hopes to take the Whitney Center's outreach philosophy to a new level, by offering everything from establishing a women's group to making cemetery arrangements for Muslim families, Ali said. Benefits The group's success just an example of what other cultures bring to the area, Tasto said.

Will's Web Watch: Tuning in to YouTube
About six months ago an email landed in my inbox from a friend with a link to a video clip. The URL pointed to YouTube.com. I'd not heard of it before then and thought nothing of it, given it seemed just one of many websites out there hosting video clips. But now just half a year later there can't be many people on the internet - or the planet - who aren't familiar with YouTube. The site was officially launched in December 2005 by Steve Chen and Chad Hurley having started it initially in mid-2005 as a means to share videos between friends. YouTube was intended to do for video what Flickr had done for photography and to provide the web 2.0 generation with a place to post and view user-generated content. Since then things have sky-rocketed. In July the site served more than one hundred million videos in a single day.
Sources: Dallas Cowboys consider Pacman Jones
On Thursday, Jones again said he wants to play for the Cowboys, on an Atlanta radio station. "I just have to do what I have to do to get back on the field," he said. "Hopefully it won't be long, and hopefully it will be a couple of more months. I would love to play for the Cowboys, America's Team." If the Cowboys acquire Jones, he would join Pro Bowl cornerback Terence Newman and Anthony Henry, who led the team with six interceptions in 2007. Jones would also be a leading candidate to return punts. In 2006, he averaged 12.9 yards per return with three touchdowns. The Cowboys have signed players with troubled pasts before. The team signed nose tackle Tank Johnson last season after he served a suspension for violations of the NFL conduct policy.
Two-second machine delay has no effect on video play
I've received some good reader questions this month, starting with one about an aspect of slot-machine play that's often misinterpreted as a "signal." While playing video poker, every now and then the machine will "stall" before dealing the next hand. Any idea what is really going on? Bruce C. It's something that occurs not only with video poker but spinning-reel and video slots, as well. According to the engineers at International Game Technology (IGT), the periodic two-second delay occurs when the machine's internal electronic meters are being updated. The meters have no connection with the machine's random number generator and therefore have no bearing on the course of play. Four Winds in New Buffalo, Mich., features computer-generated random winners.
